Learning and development

When you join us at UHB, you will have access to a host of training and development opportunities. Whether that’s taking on an apprenticeship, furthering your education with a university degree, or taking advantage of our own UHB leadership opportunities and access to mentors, you are encouraged to develop yourself and your career with us.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are an important priority for us at UHB. The apprenticeship scheme is an opportunity to support individuals taking their first steps towards a future career within a leading NHS organisation, or furthering their current one.

The scheme offers insight into how a large NHS organisation works, and the huge range of different roles and career opportunities that contribute to the provision of patient care. The programme allows apprentices to develop skills and knowledge, building their confidence and helping them to succeed.

Libraries

Our Library teams at each of our hospitals provide quality-assessed information, evidence-based resources and information skills training at the point of need in support of clinical practice, healthcare management and leadership, clinical research, ongoing professional development and academic study.

Libraries are staffed 09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday. They also offer a self-service facility outside of these hours where staff can issue, renew and return books. Staff can access the libraries 24/7 using their Trust ID card, which includes the use of computers and study areas.

Mentoring

Mentoring is a great way to boost your career, either as a mentee working with a more experienced mentor to guide and support you through career challenges, or as a mentor using your skills and experience to help mentees.

Our mentoring programme platform is designed to help you connect and get the best out of a mentoring relationship.

Building Healthier Teams

Building Healthier Teams is a dedicated leadership portal for our people managers across UHB. The portal provides support, inspiration and a sense of community for our leaders, with regular leadership stories, masterclasses and weekly nudges.
