Virtual work experience programme
Virtual work experience is offered as a collaborative partnership with Birmingham, Solihull and Black Country NHS Trusts and Futures for All.
The programme provides an insight into a variety of professions and career pathways across the NHS.
This is a two-day virtual work experience where you will have the opportunity to listen to the professionals followed by a group research project that will be presented on the second day.
Futures for All undertake the bookings via your school. Dates and professions are advertised via the website.
Insight into the NHS programme
This is a one-day hands on work experience event aimed at pupils from school years 10 to 13 who are interested in a career within the NHS. These events are held at our main hospital sites; Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital. Participants will hear from healthcare professionals, take part in interactive workshops, and receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the programme. Programmes change due to professional capacity. Example contents include:
- roles within nursing
- role of a Student Nurse Associate (SNA)
- roles within healthcare science/AHP
- role of a radiographer
- role of a doctor
- role of an operation manager
- IT

A day in the life events
A Day in the Life events are one-day programmes that showcase specialist roles and career pathways within the NHS.

Observational placements
Observational placements provide opportunities for professionals to observe a different department for a day, allowing them to gain further insight into a specific role or explore a potential change in career path. These placements provide a valuable opportunity to gain insight into different roles, responsibilities and working environments across the Trust. Pre-employment
If you are over 18 and are unemployed, we offer pre-employment programmes with the opportunity to complete work experience placements. Each programme has criteria to be able to join.
